Step back in time to 19th-century Catalonia to discover the lives and secrets of the trementinaires. We have created a VR experience where users can step into the shoes of these women, who crafted artisanal turpentine to survive in an ever-changing society. Don’t just learn about history—live it!
This past year, we’ve been working on a project that’s been a real challenge, but also a true labor of love: bringing the world of the trementinaires into Virtual Reality.
We’ve used hand-tracking to faithfully recreate the kitchen of a trementinaire, and honestly, the result is incredible. We wanted to create a total immersion—something that really lets you step into the lives of these women and understand their craft, as they worked to survive the harsh reality of 19th-century rural Catalonia.
It’s one thing to hear about history, but it’s another thing entirely to live it. Through the headset, you’ll be able to handle the ingredients and experience the atmosphere of the time in a way that feels surprisingly real.
A huge thank you to josa i tuixent and aralleida for making this project possible and for trusting us to tell this story.
If you have the chance, make sure to visit the museum in Tuixent. It’s the best way to see the project in action and experience a piece of our history firsthand.

This initiative was made possible through a grant from the Lleida Provincial Council’s Tourist Board, as part of a development plan for local town councils within the Lleida province to implement new tourism projects.
The Josa i Tuixent Town Council is betting on this new way of exploring cultural heritage, offering a unique opportunity to experience history firsthand through total immersion.
